I just threw a baby shower this past weekend for a dear friend, Elizabeth. This shower was extra special because just a few short days ago Elizabeth gave birth to her son Asa James Ray at just 31 weeks due to health concerns. He weighed 2 pounds 14 ounces when he was born and has already proven to be quite the champ in the NICU. He is already breathing on his own and conquers new milestones every day. I am so proud of this family and how strong they have been through these last couple weeks. Elizabeth is by far one of the strongest women I know and I am in awe at the mommy she has already become.
This shower had been planned for months so we just went as planned since Asa is doing so well. Elizabeth was excited to see everyone and share pictures and show off his teeny tiny hand and footprints. It was such a special day and I was honored to be a part of it.
I basically decided to keep this shower in style with the mommy. She has a modern flair and the colors she picked for the nursery were so fun! Aqua, green and brown. Since green apples went perfectly with these colors we ran with an Apple theme. It turned out adorable and I really think Elizabeth loved it.
For the decor, I used a TON of spray paint and a TON of apples!! It was hysterical how many apples I ended up getting from Sam's. One thing though about apples is that it's definitely cheaper than flowers.
I really went off of this invitation for all the decor. I found this invitation through Polka Dot Design
. Once I found this I thought it looked just like Elizabeth and really used this as my beginning inspiration for everything else.
I found the large letters at Joanne, painted them and then hot glued fake apples to the letters. Pretty fun touch! And Mommy Elizabeth got to take it home, I told her she should use it on her front door when she gets to bring sweet Asa home.
All of the branches throughout the party were spray painted to go with the color scheme.
Remember the bird cages from this party? I spray painted them Aqua and filled them with green apples. I used these a few places around the house, you'll see :)
Sadly I am addicted to sparkling water, ( I know so high maintenance!) But my bad habit turned into cheap cute vases! I have been recycling them and used spray paint on them to jazz them up and they turned out great.
In the entry way I made an apple tree and everyone had a chance to write Elizabeth a word of encouragement on the apples to help her get through the next few months. When the shower is over we put all of the apples together on a ring together so she can look through them during all of those late night feedings.
What's an apple party without Apple Cider?!
Remember these beauties? I took the pinecone garland off of the chandeliers and spray painted the heck out of them! I made a few strands of apple garland and voila a pretty unique detail.
Cinnamon stirring sticks with fun DIY flags.
The backdrop to this dessert table was pretty easy to find since it is actually my existing kitchen curtains! The fabric was too perfect not to use.
The desserts were so good thanks to my wonderful helpers! We did apple cupcakes with cream cheese icing, mini apple pies, apple dip with fresh apples and sugar cookies.
Mini Apple Pies
The YUMMIEST Apple Dip
The cupcake and cake stands were custom made using dollar tree materials and candle sticks from T.J. Maxx that were of course spray painted to match the occasion. Told you I used a lot of spray paint!
Adorable sugar cookies using custom decals from Hello Frosting
. They did an amazing job coordinating the decals with the invitation and they were super easy to apply! Highly recommend!
Party favor table. Apple cider wrapped in homemade packages and apples wrapped in ribbon to add a special touch.
The beautiful and already tiny new mommy! So proud of you Elizabeth!
Hope you enjoyed!
The shower was pulled off without a hich thanks to all of the wonderful hostesses.
