How To....

If you are wondering how to make Tissue flowers or Tissue pom poms..... This is how!

What to get:

1. Package of tissue paper (color of choice!). Make sure and get at least 8-10 sheets to a package. The more sheets the better it looks!
2. Floral wire. (you can also use something like ribbon, twisty ties, or regular wire)
3. If you are hanging them then you will need ribbon or fishing line to be able to hang.

That's it! Seriously, so cheap!

What to do:

1. Take the tissue paper and with the

Fashion Friday: Dreaming....

Dreaming of Spring!
With all this sickness, cold weather, being isolated indoors, bulky clothes.. I am definitely getting excited for Spring! Can't wait to pull out the shorts, tank tops and bright colors! Maybe if we all dream, pray and wish for Spring hard enough maybe it will come earlier this year! ha! Have a Happy Friday and a wonderful weekend!

Bailey Shower!

Okay folks, Here is the full downlow on the "B" themed shower! Enjoy the pics, let me know what you think!
The menu for the night consisted of: Beer, Burger sliders, Boiled shrimp, Bar-b-q shrimp, Berry salad, Buffalo wings, Broccoli Salad, Baked potato bites, Banana pudding, cake and wine. Yummo!
Need a way to save money on a shower? Do tissue pom pom centerpieces instead of fresh flowers, they are adorable and cheap!!
Print Shop to the Rescue!! All the "B' words were designed from Print shop and the "B is For" on the mantle were all bought from Hobby Lobby and painted by yours truly!
"B" is for Books!

To go with the book theme we put a personalized book with Dyer's name on the cover for people to write a welcome message. It turned out to be such a sweet book!

Alexis Hurdle did the adorable and yummy cake!
Labels were designed and printed from the Print Shop program and the bottles are from socialcouture.com. I filled them with an orange candy from the Dollar Store and then cut a slit in the bottle nipple for the cards to stand up in.
Party favors... B is for Bubblegum! Everyone got to take a scoop of bubblegum home in a cute monogrammed baggy.
All the host and hostesses!! We had so much help and could not of pulled this awesome shower off without all of them. Thanks for all your help!
Jenessa, I love you! You and Mark are going to be such amazing parents and I can't wait to see you fall in love with Baby Dyer.
If you all have any questions on how to do something that you see or need more info.. leave a comment!

Chelsea thank you so much for the doing the amazing pictures!

Significance.

This post definitely doesn't have anything really to do with Parties, Recipes or even Babies; It has to do with the most important thing in my life: My Faith. Lately I have gotten so caught up in my own mind, life, abilities, weaknesses, circumstances, meaningless stuff, etc... I feel I have lost where my true significance lies. In community group this semester we have taken on my sister, Jennie Allen's curriculum that she wrote called "Stuck". After I did this weeks lesson on Discontentment and listened to her talk I have to say I was changed or at least REAWAKENED!

As a girl who has lived a pretty leisurely, lush and blessed life, I must admit.... Discontentment is something that I have struggled with probably on a daily if not hourly basis over most of my life. For instance my thoughts that take up my day may or may not include... What am I going to wear today, I wish Sawyer would sleep better, I wish I had those skinny citizen jeans, I wish I had a 6 pack, I wish I could buy that cute lamp,  wish I could go on a date, I hope people comment on my blog today (ha!), I wish I had her car and so on and so on... Surely you get the point!

If I am really honest with myself, ALOT of the time out of my day is spent in my head being jealous, comparing myself, wishing for things, and trying to achieve significance in things that really don't matter. My sister struck a cord in me when she said that when we let these things get into our heads and let these sins take over it will literally make us SICK! And I can say I have witnessed that in my own life. I want my life to look different and to be a life that finds significance in the only thing that matters, which is CHRIST!
 Galatians 2:19-20
For through the law I died to the law, so that I might live to God. I have been crucified with Christ. It is no longer I who live, but Christ who lives in me. And the life I now live in the flesh I live by faith in the Son of God, who loved me and gave himself for me.

All that to say since I have started this blog I want to make sure one thing stands true. I pray that throughout posting about silly things like parties, baby recipes, decorating and yes even fashion that I still remember my foundation in God. These things are obviously not bad and I know that, but I pray that my significance and worth will always be grounded in the fact that I am a CHILD OF GOD and ultimately these things of this earth don't even matter. Without a foundation in Christ and true significance in HIM, all of our abilities and skill in this world is like "Striving after Wind" (Ecclesiastes 4:4). Although I will probably be struggling with these things most of my life I have Faith that God will continue to work through my weaknesses.

Anyway, Just a BIG SIDE NOTE!
So....To God be the Glory for EVERYTHING (even baby showers!), AMEN!

By the way here is a link to a very powerful talk by my sis:  http://austinbible.org/default.aspx?p=40333&maid=1133

Also her blog is INCREDIBLE! So check it out too! Jennie's BLOG!

10 months?!!!

I CANNOT believe that my Sawyer bear is 10 months old! Sunday he turned 10 months and I seriously am still in shock that this first year with him has almost come full circle.  I am actually becoming very sad and sentimental about this baby turning a year old. I so wish time could just stop! But since it can't I am going to start planning the fun b-day celebration and continue to watch my little guy turn into a little person. We are so thankful for every day we have with Sawyer. Just last night Andrew was sitting on the bed cuddling with him and he said "I can't believe we thought life was even fun before Sawyer! He makes everything so much happier and sweeter!" Couldn't of said it better myself! All that to say here is a little Sawyer update at 10 months:

- He naps 2 times a day for a couple hours each
- He eats 3 BIG meals a day and still takes 4 bottles. The child seriously will eat Anything and Everything! He also makes sure that he doesn't leave any mess, it all makes it in his mouth. Quite funny!
- He still sleeps about 11 hours every night and many mornings wants to cuddle and sleep with me in bed.
- Says BaBa, Dada, and gives kisses on demand. No MAMA yet! :(
- Crawls everywhere and now stands up on everything.
- His personality is still so sweet. He loves his mama and dada and always likes to have his eyes on what we are doing. He gives us cuddles, kisses and happy squeels all the time. We can't get enough!
- He is a major OBSERVER! He will stare the living day lights out of you or win any stare contest out there.
- He hasn't gone through the attachment thing yet (Fingers crossed) which is nice for babysitters and nursery workers. I'm sure its coming though.
- His favorite thing right now is opening and closing every drawer, cabinet or bedroom door in the house. I think we spend about half our day doing that right now.
- Overall his favorite things in life right now are: EMMA, FOOD, PRAISE BABY, BATHS and Any book especially Brown Bear!. (Now that I think about it not much has changed since he was an itty bitty baby)
-Two weeks ago he weighed exactly 22 pounds and is wearing all 12-18 month clothes now. As everyone points out, he looks bigger than me; He is still our big ole boy!
-  He is still pretty bald, but hair is coming in fast and it looks CURLY!! Can't wait to see if it really will be.
Anyway I could probably keep going and going so I'll stop it here. Hope that gives you a little insight into our little life with Sawyer right now. We feel so blessed!

Baby food YUMMYS!!

SATURDAY! Oh what a day! My day started off with my sweet husband taking off to go hunting at 4:30 in the morning. I actually have been wanting him to do something for himself because he seriously has been MR. MOM for the last three weeks because of some health issues I have been having (more on that later, Nothing big!). Then a couple hours later I hear my Sawyer bear start stirring. 6:30!! Oh I can't get that child to sleep any later in his crib.. Any ideas? A lot of mornings I can give him a bottle in bed and he'll go straight back to sleep with me or Andrew. But of course on this lazy Saturday morning he woke up a WILD MAN! So since I was still so sleepy I turned on some cartoons and let the monkey man climb all over me for an entire hour.

After my semi-lazy morning in bed I  finally got up and was on a mission to have my monthly baby food cook off! I have been cooking Sawyer's baby food since he was 5 months old and it is something I have really enjoyed doing. It's easy, cheap, healthy, and always a crowd pleaser for my little man! I'll defintely be posting some favorite recipes of ours throughout this blog.

The recipe I'll post today is for babies about 7 months and up who are eating finger foods successfully. This was my first time to make this concoction and he GOBBLED it up!

Cheesy Turkey and Pasta
- 1 lb ground turkey
- 1 1/2 cup whole wheat pasta of your choice (farfalla or a spiral noodle is good for babies because they can pick it up easier)
- 1 cup peeled, sliced and cooked carrots or add any veggies you know your baby likes (peas, squash, etc..)
- 1/4 cup chicken broth
- 2 cups of colby/jack shredded cheese
-1/4 cup applesauce
- Dash of Garlic Powder
- Brown turkey in a skillet with the dash of garlic powder
- Cook pasta like regular and then drain when finished
- Add remaining ingredients in a bowl and mix all together, place in a baking dish and cook at 350 degrees until bubbly and heated through (about 15 minutes)
- Serve after cooled down and store the rest for later.

This makes about 10 meals for Sawyer. After it cools down I cut it into squares and place in ziplock bags to freeze. This can freeze up to about a month and a half.  When ready to serve to your baby just defrost in a microwavable bowl and you are ready to go! Let me know if you try if for your little one, even if they are a picky eater I bet they'll like it! How could any baby resist cheesy goodness?!

Here are a few that Amanda emailed me that I am definitely putting on my wishlist!

Say CHEESE!!!!

So back in November our little family got our pictures taken by the amazing Brooke Robinson. Sawyer was about 8 months and he was just at the cutest age. He wasn't moving everywhere yet so we thought it would be the perfect time to capture our family. She did an amazing job and we loved them all so much we had the hardest time figuring out what we wanted for the house. Anyway, here is a preview of a few of my favorites!

Snow day!!!

To be honest I was not too excited about this snow day only because Sawyer has been sick since the Sunday before and we have been stuck in the house for an entire week. Sawyer and I were very ready to get out since he was better on Friday. But we made the best of it and I even took my sick baby out to see the snow (I know so cruel!) but he had to witness the ridiculous blizzard! We also entertained ourselves at home by EATING, EATING, EATING!!! I made homemade chocolate chip cookies, taco soup and cornbread and of course we played with the babe and watched some great movies (Hurtlocker is a must see!). So even though I was a little disappointed about the snow it really ended up being a fun day with my little family! I was so glad to have my husband home!
Playing in the fed ex box, oh so fun. Maybe I'll use this to ship him off to Grandmama's houseon his fussy days!
Taco soup is seriously Andrew's favorite meal, ecspecially with my skillet cornbread. He was a happy noony(for those of you who don't know us, his nickname)! (See bottom for recipe)
Winter Wonderland
I may or may not of let him taste the snow... (He LOVED it!)
Over 6 inches of snow!
Dada with his boy! So glad to have him home all day
Sweet goodness to end our night. We put Sawyer down, lit the fire and watched a good movie. Couldn't ask for a better Snow day!
See you later for Yummy Monday (which will be my B-day!). Ya'll get two recipes for this week.. haha! Just because this meal was too perfect for a snowy weekend not to share.
Taco Soup
I am sure many of you have taco soup recipes. It is a staple for many, but I have tried over 4 different recipes and not only is this the easiest it is by far our favorite!
-1 Can pinto beans
-1 can kidney beans
-1 can rotel
-1 15 oz can diced tomotoes
-1 8 oz tomoate sauce
-1 pkg dry ranch
-1 pkg taco seasoning
- 1 1/2 lb ground beaf
-1 small onion
- dashes of Garlic Salt
1. Brown mean with onion and garlic salt, Drain liquid after browned
2. Mix all ingredients together and simmer in a large saucepan or crockpot untill hot. (The longer it simmers, the better. Sometimes I keep it warm all day)
3. Serve with sour cream, cheese, cornbread or fritos
Sweet Skillet Cornbread
-1 can sweet creamed corn
-1 pkg Jiffy cornmeal
-2 eggs
-1/2 cup sour cream
-1/4 cup milk
- 2 TB sugar
-1/2 stick of butter
- Preaheat oven to 350 degrees and place the stick of butter in a cast iron skillet. Stick in the oven while preheating to melt the butter. Take the skillet out when it looks like all the butter is melted.
- Mix together all the remaining ingredients and pour into the skillet with the melted butter.
-Place in the oven for approx. 25 minutes. Depending on the size of your skillet just watch it to make sure it is firm in the middle it may take a shorter or longer amount of time.
That's it! Seriously by far the best cornbread you can make. It is absolutely impossible for this to turn out dry or bland. Hope ya'll enjoy!

Fashion Friday..... "Put your Party Cardi on!!"

Happy Wintery Friday!!
So. Anyone who knows me well or anyone who has seen me twice ever in the last year will tell you that I love a good cardigan. I am sure all my close friends and sisters are probably laughing right about now. But here is the deal. They come in all different colors, styles, textures and they can change an entire outfit.
If you are going for the casual, "I don't care, but still look Hot!" look there are many cardigans that are perfect for achieving that look. Just look at this cute old navy cardigan for only $26
Put it with a cute American Apparell T and a cute scarf and call it a day! By the way this is definitely something I pull out once a week to wear! An easy and cute GO TO outfit.
Lets say you want to dress up a cardigan for dinner or even church. Pair this cute cardigan with a fun oversized white collared shirt, leggings, fun boots, and a long layered necklace and you will be walkin in style!

Now, when it comes time to really put your Party Cardi on, why not reach for some Sequins! I'll do a whole post on sequins later but I am loving some sequins this season. You can use it to dress up an outfit or just wear it with a fun pair of ripped jeans and a plain white T.

Everything I have found a link for is affordable and easy to find. But there is one more cardigan I found that is definitely going on my Wish List! I saw it on anthropologie.com and think its an adorable cardigan!
Ooohhh La La!!
Hope ya'll enjoyed our first Fashion Friday! I also hope that everyone is staying warm and cozy over this wintery, cold weekend! I'm just praying our electricity stays on, I'll keep you posted.

Couples Baby Shower

Couples baby shower...  Who knew they could be so fun!! I have been in charge of two at my house and am actually in the process of throwing another one for the incredible Jenessa Dyer of J.Bailey Occasions at the end of February. More to come about that one!

Anyway, here are some of questions that come may come up for these type of showers... how do you make a baby shower not so cutsie since those silly men will be there?! Do you do all the baby frilly details? Do you break out the blue and pink? Can you serve alcohol at a baby shower? What kind of foods do you pick since guys will be there? Can you play those fun baby games with the men there?

So here is one shower that may help with a few of our questions.

I threw a shower for one of my very closest friends Mindy and John David back in August. They were having a sweet baby girl Lyla. So the first question I tackled was what color scheme to go with. I thought since men were going to be there we should make the colors girly but definitely not pink and frilly. So we went with Yellow and Grey.

I found this cute yellow and grey fabric from etsy.com, We painted letters that I got from Hobby Lobby grey; that whole project was around  $5.00. Yellow lanterns from social couture online.
Found this grey plaque from Target 70% off and  mod podged scrapbook paper on top of wooden letters in her initials from Hobby Lobby then super glued them on the plaque. Fun find!
Thankfully it was a warm summer night so we set up every table I had on the front and back porch. Lit candles and lanterns on every table.

Party Favors! Bottles are from the dollar store filled with lemon drops to go with the yellow theme also found from the dollar store!
Dessert and drink table.
For food we picked to do dinner for everyone. We did a Mexican fiesta! Enchiladas, big mexican salad. chips, salsa and cheese dip on every table.
For a couples shower there is no need to stick to just a  party punch. So we did beers, margaritas and wine. Beers were served in the blow up rubber ducky. That was one of my favorite touches. It is actually a bathtub for Sawyer that makes into a perfect ice chest! You can find the rubber ducky tubs at Target
For activities we just stuck to fun laid back yard games; Baggo, Washers, Bacci Ball just to name a few! You don't always have to play baby games at a baby shower! The guys of course LOOOVVEEED it!
Between the yummy dinner, candle lit tables outside, fun yard games, beer, wine and margaritas all in all it was a very successful night. In fact, if I remember correctly the party didn't end till about midnight! Even though fun frilly proper ladies showers are fun too, I have become quite the fan of these evening dinner showers for both the new mom and the new dad! What better way to celebrate a new life by getting all your closest friends (guys and girls) together to share in conversation, good food, and to simply have a little fun before the big D Day!

Yummy MONDAYS!!!

Since Mondays are always a little depressing for many people probably excluding stay at home moms (we don't really have weekends or really notice the beginning or end of a week!) I thought it would be fun to share a recipe every Monday. It might make your Monday a little more YUMMY! So for today here is an easy GO TO meal that is for sure a favorite of mine! I actually grew up eating this yummy pork recipe.

Sweet and Sour Pork Tenderloin

- 1 pork tenderloin
-1/2 bag of fritos corn chips
-1 jar of apple jelly
- Ketchup
-Garlic Salt
-Chili Powder
-pepper

- Preheat the oven to 350 degrees, coat the pork with a generous amount of chili powder, garlic salt and pepper. Cook the pork until the core temp reaches around 160 degrees. Depending on the size of the tenderloin, it usually takes about 45 minutes to an hour.
-While the pork is cooking, pour the jar of apple jelly into a saucepan heat on medium. Fill the empty apple jelly jar with the ketchup. Pour that ketchup in the sauce pan with the apple jelly and heat until mixed and thinned out.
- When the pork is finished, pour a little of the sauce over the pork and then crunch the fritos on top of that. Return to oven for five minutes.  I always serve the fritos and the sauce in sepearate bowls so people can add more of what they want.

That's IT!! EASY PEASY!!!

This recipe is really yummy with some sort of rice and a simple veggie (like green beans)
Crowd pleaser for sure!!

Excited!!

This new blog… something I have been thinking about starting for a while now and I can't tell you all how excited I am about this blog! Even though I am only 25 I started at a very young age with a love for design, fashion, cooking and even party throwing. I grew up with a mom who taught us what it meant to be a proper slash FUN hostess. She is a woman who pays incredible attention to detail and reflects good taste in everything from napkins to paint colors. Therefore, I contribute my love for the details in EVERYTHING to my wonderful mother.

My thoughts are consumed with the following things....

• BABIES: Obviously my 9 month old baby boy (Sawyer); I love researching great baby food ideas, products, activities, toys that are stimulating, etc... I want to be the best mother I can be to this sweet child that was given to me, therefore he ranks at the top of my list of passions!

• Parties: I absolutely LOVE to throw a good party! I will always offer up my house and lead the way in a baby shower, bridal shower or even birthday parties if it means that I get to share my ideas and see it come to life.

• Cooking: I also have a passion for cooking good food (sometimes healthy and sometimes Paula Deanish). My husband has a love for food that I don't think compares to anyone I know so I try recipes out on him and get his constructive criticism and then love to share the food with others.

• Decorating: I didn't know that I had a passion for designing/decorating until I got married 5 years ago. My husband gave me a budget to buy furniture because we were literally starting from scratch, I knew the minute I started looking at colors and furniture that it was something I LOVED. I am definitely not a professional but I do think that it is something that I am passionate about and I do believe that I have a natural eye for design because of my upbringing, so I hope to share some good ideas that bring unique details into a home.

• Fashion: Lastly Fashion.... Ha! Well unfortunately this has caused an overcrowded closet and a constant battle between my husband and me! I try to explain to my husband time and time again that even though my closet is full I just love fashion too much to not stay up to date with all the new trends. He just doesn't get it! Oh well, I'll just blog about my wish list and the new trend that I just can't live without.

Even though I am definitely not a professional in any of these areas, my goal is to bring you fresh ideas that will maybe bring warmth to your home, more details to your parties, a little extra flare to your outfit, and hopefully a little kick to your cooking. I also hope to keep those we know and love up to date about our little family here in Fayetteville, AR. Life is too fun right now with this growing baby not to share some glimpses into my own life. Very excited to get started and hoping that you all find something of interest from this blog! Hope you enjoy!

P.S. Don't criticize my grammar! I may have some strengths in my life but grammar is not one of them!!

P.S.S. Bare with me in my blog design. I'll be changing things and working on things probably for a while until I figure it all out and until I am satisfied with the functionality of the site.

My Little Family

Here is a little bit about my life and my little family.
I met my husband Andrew when I was 14 and he was 16 years old at our highschool in Little Rock. We literally grew up a couple blocks apart and fell in love at a very young age. I had a HUGE crush on him and he had a crush on me and low and behold the Lord brought us together! Andrew is still the love of my life 11 years later. We have been married since July of 2005.

Andrew a.k.a (Noony, the noons, nunu) is truly a better husband than I deserve and I thank God for him everyday. He is my rock, my comic relief, and the best baby daddy I know! He is in the construction management field here in Fayetteville.

By far the best thing Andrew and I have experienced together is welcoming our son Sawyer into the world on April 7th, 2009. Even though he put me through the world's worst labor, that day was the happiest day of our lives and we can't imagine life without him now. He makes my heart grow bigger every day! Sawyer is wild and loud but has the most tender heart. We have been so blessed by his sweet spirit and endearing personality. Sawyer climbs, runs and jumps everywhere, throws a football like a 22 year old quarterback, but at the end of the day would rather be sitting on one of our laps cuddling in front of a movie. He has been a joy to parent and even though he absolutely wears me out, he makes my job SO much fun!
Sawyer was diagnosed with life threatening asthma in January 2011 after he almost died because of an attack. He was airlifted to Little Rock Children's hospital where he spent two nights in ICU. We are so beyond thankful that he fought hard and got better. He is our little trooper. He gets weekly shots, takes tons of medicine, sees tons of specialists and through it all he always comes out with a smile. We have a close bond with him because of eveyrthing we have been through. He has changed my life in SO many ways and I am so thankful for His life.

On October 17th, 2011, all of my dreams came true when we welcomed our daughter, Brooklyn Faith Henry into this world. I have longed for a girl my whole life and with Andrew being from a family of generations filled with all males, I was setting myself up for having all boys. I thought it was going to be impossible for me to have a girl with the "Henry" genetics. But low and behold I got my girl! She is the sweetest little thing ever. We are still getting to know this angel but so far she is the easiest, quietest and happiest baby. Smiles at me ALL the time and hardly ever cries. I don't know how I got so lucky. I am looking forward to watching this baby girl grow and looking forward to all the fun we are going to have together.

About Me

My name is Katie Henry. Welcome to my blog!
I am a wife to Andrew Henry who I have been with since I was 14 and a stay at home mama to two precious babies. I have a crazy 3 year old Sawyer who keeps me on me toes and melts my heart daily and a baby girl, Brooklyn who is such a joy in our family. When I am not too overwhelmed with my role as a mom I love to pour any extra energy I have in party planning, decorating, cooking and crafting. I love interior design and pour myself into as many projects as time allows.
Ultimately my goal in life is to wake up every day and do my best to live a life that is honoring to my Lord and Savior. I am nothing without Him and I give all the glory to Him. Through all of the ups and downs in my life I stand firm and grounded b/c of His unfailing Love and strength. I feel so blessed in so many ways and give praise to Him for these things that I do not deserve.
This blog is a way for me to share my passions, ideas, my faith and to give you glimpses into my life as a wife and mama. This blog is a place where I can be honest about this journey of parenting and a place where I tend to vent sometimes! I love to post about parties, design ideas, crafts, yummy recipes and even sometimes I'll talk a little bit about fashion. After all my life is all over the place right now and so this is the place that will encompass all of that craziness!
